Project objective
Strengthening the development of CBOs of people who use drugs in Vietnam to provide support services, policy advocacy to improve the quality of life of drug users in Vietnam. Through community-based interventions including raising awareness on overdose prevention and relief with Naloxone, pilot community-based detoxification and drug treatment, provide overdose relief skills and other useful services for drug users.

Activities

  • Capacity building for 5 CBOs of drug users in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh city; improve the living conditions of drug users in these cities.
  • Raising awareness on community-based overdose prevention in the 3 cities.
  • Pilot community-based overdose relief at Gạch đầu dòng – a CBO in Hanoi.
  • Continue the community-based relapse prevention program for drug users in general and those coming back from Compulsory Centers.

Community meetings, group discussions, giving out presents for children of CBO members and job creation for members of the 5 project CBOs.

Location: Hanoi, Hai Phong and Ho Chi Minh city 

Outcomes

  • The CBOs implement more than 30 group discussions with the topics on Hepatitis, overdose prevention and relief
  • The number of members of these CBOs increase to total of 800 people
  • 32 cases received overdose relief
  • Refer clients to community-based detoxification service
  • 50 people found jobs among 86 people referred
  • Gạch đầu dòng pilots community-based detoxification, support 25 people to detox at the group’s office. Yet, this is on hold due to lack of guidelines to implement the activity
  • 3 people referred to Methadone maintenance therapy by Gạch đầu dòng
