Celebrating Vietnam's Social Work Day

March 25th is Vietnam’s Social Work Day - an annual occasion to honor social workers – those who work quietly, steadfastly, and with dedication to support the community and create positive changes in society.

With the mission of improving the quality of life and promoting social inclusion for vulnerable communities, SCDI is proud to be home to many members who have studied social work.

On this special occasion, these members have had the opportunity to share their journeys at SCDI, as well as the challenges that social workers are facing.

Nguyen Hong Phuc - Program Officer, SCDI Ho Chi Minh City Office

"Working at SCDI and directly participating in community support activities, my knowledge in social work has been a great advantage. Thanks to this background, I can efficiently gather information from clients to understand the difficulties they are facing, and from there, develop the most appropriate support solutions.

My role is not only about helping individuals in need, but also about mending family relationships, connecting them with job opportunities – how to create a favorable environment to help them recover and stabilize their lives in the long run. The greatest happiness for me is when I witness those who have been supported gradually return to normal life. That, to me, is both success and motivation in my journey alongside the community."

Vu An Linh - Project Officer, SCDI Coastal Region Office

"As a project officer at SCDI in Hai Phong, I work directly with many community groups and support clients from various backgrounds. The professional knowledge in social work and system thinking skills that I was trained in have been incredibly helpful in shaping ideas and developing community support plans.

When I first started this job, I faced several challenges, as the community groups that SCDI works with are diverse and each has its own unique difficulties. This requires someone like me, who is supporting the community, to consider many factors to approach and assist them comprehensively, helping them overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives.

Being close to the community, meeting and listening to their stories, and walking alongside them on a long journey is a great blessing for me. It’s a blessing because I get to see firsthand the impact my work has on the community. This is also the biggest motivation for me to continue steadfastly in the field of social work and community support at SCDI."

Nguyễn Thanh Hùng - Communications Manager

"During my time working as a Communications Manager at SCDI, I have had the opportunity to meet and talk with many vulnerable and marginalized communities. With my knowledge and skills from social work, I can listen to them with empathy and without judgment, creating a safe space for them to share the difficulties they are facing. While gathering communication information, I can identify the issues the project clients are facing, and promptly provide feedback to the technical programs to develop the most effective support solutions.

Through working with many different community groups, I have realized that communication in the social field becomes more meaningful when we genuinely engage in dialogue, listen, and deeply understand the needs of the community. Their stories need to be shared authentically, contributing to raising social awareness about the challenges they face, while also developing communication-based interventions tailored to each group.

This is both a challenge that requires continuous creativity and a precious opportunity for those of us in communications to pursue our passion and create positive, sustainable values for the community."

SCDI also wishes all social workers strength, passion, and enthusiasm as they continue their journey alongside the community.
