Recently, within the framework of the Breaking the Cycle project in Hai Phong, nearly 20 children and their caregivers were connected with a mental health specialist to take part in an activity on “Screening and assessing health, psychology, and behavior.” This program marked an important first step in identifying each child’s physical and mental development, as well as their social relationships.

A highlight of the activity was the direct involvement of caregivers. By joining the assessment process, they not only gained a clearer understanding of the child’s condition but also deepened their awareness of the importance of mental health in overall development. This also helped foster stronger collaboration between families and specialists in the next stages of support.
Following the screening, based on evaluations of emotions, behaviors, and social connections, specialists will design tailored intervention plans for each child. These sessions are conducted one-on-one, lasting for 45 to 60 minutes for the child and about 30 minutes for the caregiver. The number and pace of sessions will be adjusted flexibly depending on each child’s progress after every session.
Beyond detection and intervention, this activity also equips both children and caregivers with practical life skills. It marks a new step forward in the journey of supporting and protecting children, working towards creating a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment where they can grow strong both physically and mentally.
