SCDI presents to readers the comprehensive outstanding activities in May, 2022


 
October Writing Class Summary 

The October Writing Class is a nonfiction storytelling writing class organized by SCDI for LGBTIQ+ community activists. SCDI organized the closing ceremony in conjunction with the painting exhibition, combined with a panel discussion for journalists. Students participating in the writing class could exchange, learn, share as well as voice their opinions, which is an opportunity for the press and lecturers of the writing class to learn more about the LGBTIQ+ community.

SCDI attends international workshop

On May 27th, SCDI and LGBTIQA+ community organizations received invitations from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to attend and report at the international workshop on Protection against Violence and Discrimination based on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity: International and Vietnam’s experiences.

SCDI works for an inclusive community 

On May 20th, SCDI held a seminar on legal support needs of LGBITQ+ community with the participation of delegates from the Lawyers' Association in some southern provinces. 

Within a day, legal experts, participants and community representatives had an open conversation about SOGIESC, the current legal status in Vietnam on LGBTIQ+ people and the community's need to be present, live as themselves and live safely.

Extracurricular activities to participate in a drawing class for children of “Breaking the Cycle” project 

On the morning of May 22nd, students of the "Breaking the Cycle” project participated in a drawing class organized by SCDI.  

Parents took the children to class to participate in the drawing with their friends, the teachers in the project. The drawing class was taught by Ms. Oanh Duong – Founder and Coordinator of Art For Education project. 

The content of this week's drawing class is about the theme of family. Children were instructed to redraw the house of their dreams.

Community-based active tuberculosis case finding 

Community-based active tuberculosis screening has been implemented by SCDI and the NTP National TB Control Program in Dak Nong, Dak Lak and Gia Lai since March 2022, focusing on communes with high TB incidence and barriers to access and treat this disease. In Dak Nong, Dak Lak and Gia Lai, SCDI has an extensive CMAT network, experienced and familiar with people in the region. People who come for screening receive free X-rays, Xpert Gene tests, and TST.

Implementation of anti-tuberculosis project activities  

SCDI cooperated with the Center for Disease Control in Dak Nong to implement the anti-TB project. Nowadays, in Dak Nong, SCDI wants to participate more deeply in TB prevention and control in Dak Nong province. With support from the National TB Programme NTP and the Stop TB Partnership, SCDI promotes TB prevention and reversal activities, towards ending TB in Viet Nam by 2030. With the desire to contribute to the national goal of ending tuberculosis, SCDI implements the CSET project.
