On the morning of March 28, SCDI attended the 1st Expanded Scientific Conference on Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases in Nghe An 2025 and the Ceremony for the 2025 Tuberculosis Action Month. The Nghe An Lung Hospital and the Nghe An Department of Health jointly organized the event.
The conference provided a platform for scientists and experts to exchange and share new, advanced, and specialized techniques in tuberculosis and respiratory diseases. It was also an opportunity for healthcare staff to learn, exchange research experiences, evaluate the effectiveness of applying new techniques in medical diagnosis and treatment, and thereby improve professional skills and expertise, contributing to public health protection, care, and enhancement.
At the conference, Nghe An Lung Hospital shared notable results in the local tuberculosis prevention and control efforts in 2024. Specifically, in the past year, Nghe An province recorded 1,686 individual tuberculosis patients, including 47 cases of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis, with a treatment success and completion rate of 90.5%. Active screening to detect tuberculosis patients in the community was also intensified, with 16,771 individuals screened and 10,258 tests conducted using the Xpert method. All detected cases were effectively connected to treatment, reducing the community's transmission risk.
Additionally, the hospital maintained regular screening in high-risk facilities such as prisons, drug rehabilitation centers, and social welfare centers. In 2024, 6,349 prisoners were screened, 35 of whom were diagnosed with tuberculosis and started treatment.
Furthermore, the hospital actively collaborated with other social organizations in tuberculosis prevention and control efforts. Since 2021, SCDI has worked with Nghe An Lung Hospital on tuberculosis detection, latent tuberculosis, and treatment referral to ensure public health.
In 2024, the collaborative efforts between SCDI and Nghe An Lung Hospital in tuberculosis and latent tuberculosis screening and respiratory disease detection in Quynh Luu district helped screen 7,432 locals, detecting 18 cases of sensitive tuberculosis and 285 latent tuberculosis cases. The Community Ending Tuberculosis (CSET) network, built by SCDI in the area, played an important role in referring and supporting the treatment connection for tuberculosis patients and those suspected of having tuberculosis, accompanying patients throughout their treatment process.
