SCDI hosted a training on climate migration and vulnerabilities

On July 11, SCDI hosted a thought-provoking training session on climate migration and vulnerabilities, led by Frédérik Beaudry, a master’s student in geographical sciences at Université Laval, Canada.

The session offered valuable insights into how the consequences of climate change are not felt equally across populations. Instead, they are shaped by intersecting forms of social disadvantage, including gender, migration status, ethnicity, health conditions, income insecurity, and unequal access to essential services.

Using an intersectional lens, participants explored how climate change compounds pre-existing vulnerabilities and deepens inequality. At SCDI, these dynamics are evident in our work with migrants, ethnic minorities, informal workers, and people living with chronic illnesses. Climate change not only disrupts lives, but it also displaces, disables, and intensifies cycles of marginalization.

Sessions like this are essential in informing our program design. They strengthen our commitment to ensuring that climate resilience efforts are grounded in equity and responsive to the needs of the most affected communities.
