SCDI presents to readers the outstanding news of August 2024

Preliminary meeting to review the first 6 months of 2024

Officials from SCDI offices nationwide convened on August 12th and 13th to discuss the year's first half, share ideas, and propose directions to complete the plan shortly. Working with the community effectively was one of the meeting's highlights. Members discussed challenges they had encountered, how they overcame them, and their experiences interacting and collaborating with the community.

The indispensable "speciality" of these meetings is sharing knowledge on new, interesting, but important topics to support the community. SCDI members learned about SOGIESC and child protection policy. The preventing sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment policy (PSEAH) was also mentioned to build a respectful and healthy working environment. The contents are specific, up-to-date, and highly applicable to the projects and programs that SCDI is implementing.

28 disadvantaged households in Ea Sar, Ea Kar, Đắk Lắk receive crop seedlings to develop livelihoods

SCDI has reached out to Ea Sar commune, Ea Kar district, where residents rely on the forest and face the risk of malaria. The difficult economic conditions force many families to focus on daily survival, often neglecting their children’s education.

Mr Hà Văn Hồi, a collaborator of SCDI and the “One Egg a Day” program proposed providing crop seedlings to poor families with children. The program has supported 48,550 acacia seedlings worth 53,405,000 VND to the 28 most disadvantaged families in the commune, helping to green 11 hectares of land.

By receiving these seedlings, 28 families have committed to sending their children to school. Income from the acacia forest will help alleviate their hardships, enabling children to attend school, break the cycle of poverty, and build a foundation for a sustainable future.

Breaking the Cycle & One Egg a Day prepare for school enrollment

In August, the Breaking the Cycle project and the One Egg a Day program organized meaningful activities to support children in preparing for the new school year.

Since early August, SCDI has provided school supplies to 320 kids in Ho Chi Minh City, lessening the load on parents and making the kids happy. These donations, which are categorized by grade level, originate from SCDI employees, contributors, and the One Egg a Day program. With this assistance, kids feel more confident and well-prepared for the upcoming school year.

With the help of volunteers and parents, Breaking the Cycle Project held an activity session kick-off for the new school year in Hanoi on August 24th. The kids got to interact and talk about their hopes and ambitions for the upcoming school year. Dreams like becoming an astronaut, passing the high school entrance exam, improving math and literature test scores, or creating a ton of drawings are all documented. The dream notes will be thoughtfully preserved by the project team and given back to the kids when the school year ends as a keepsake that will allow them to reflect on their journey.

Breaking the Cycle project and the One Egg a Day program continue to call for support from benefactors to help children under challenging families before the new school year.
