SCDI presents to readers the outstanding news of October 2024.

SCDI attends the BIS Hanoi International Festival

On Saturday, October 5, SCDI participated in the annual International Festival hosted by the British International School Hanoi (BIS). This event celebrates diversity and unity, drawing in students, parents, and teachers.

As a community partner, SCDI contributed with a vibrant booth showcasing unique items such as books, comic books, handwoven products from "One Egg a Day", silk scarves, and special publications from the "Breaking the Cycle" project and SCDI. Engaging games at the booth also attracted many children, with all proceeds from the fundraising efforts going to the "One Egg a Day" fund.

During the event, Ms Vũ Ngọc Hoa, SCDI's Social Mobilization Program Manager, introduced the centre’s initiatives and goals, focusing on the "Breaking the Cycle" project. She highlighted the project's aim to support youth from impoverished families in building skills for better job prospects, offering a sustainable pathway out of poverty.

The initiative emphasizes improving children’s education and fostering resilience while creating safe, supportive environments for their growth. Ms. Hoa underscored the program's long-term vision to empower the children and their families.

SCDI was honoured to be recognized by the BIS Hanoi Headmaster as a key community partner. Ms Hoa expressed gratitude to the school for its continued support and enthusiasm, emphasizing that contributions from donors and businesses—particularly through events like this—light the way for children in the program, bringing them closer to educational opportunities.

SCDI deeply appreciates its partnership with BIS Hanoi, acknowledging the school’s dedication to spreading values of compassion and motivation to support children facing challenges. This collaboration embodies the spirit of sharing and collective action to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need.

Family-themed activity with children of the “Breaking the Cycle” project

In October, the "Breaking the Cycle" project in Ho Chi Minh City hosted a series of themed activities for 4th and 5th graders focusing on the topic of family. These sessions aimed to provide kids with meaningful knowledge while fostering love and responsibility toward their families.

Participants explored family values, rights and responsibilities, and perspectives on gender equality through discussions led by facilitators. Small group activities encouraged kids to share ideas creatively, allowing them to learn while having fun to develop essential life skills and deepen their understanding of familial bonds.

The session also continued cultural and creative activities like reading and drawing, helping children build habits in reading and nurture their artistic talents. These activities play a vital role in shaping their character and preparing them for the future.

A trip to Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum with children of the “Breaking the Cycle” project

On October 26, SCDI, in collaboration with volunteers from the Hyundai Jump School program, organized a special field trip for children in the "Breaking the Cycle" project in Hanoi.

The trip included a visit to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and other historical landmarks associated with Vietnam's beloved leader. The children explored the stilt house, Ho Chi Minh Museum, and learned about his extraordinary life and legacy through stories shared by volunteer guides.

This meaningful excursion was filled with curiosity, innocent questions, and joyful smiles. It allowed the kids to deepen their understanding of national history while fostering connection and learning outside the classroom.

SCDI would like to express our gratitude to the Hyundai Jump School volunteers for making this memorable day possible for the children.
