Join SCDI's Breaking the Cycle program in supporting children go back to school

As the 2026-2027 school year approaches, SCDI warmly invites individuals, organizations, and partners to join us in providing essential support for the 1,437 children currently participating in our Breaking the Cycle program. Every contribution, in whatever form it takes, helps create more opportunities for children to attend school with confidence, continue learning, and pursue their dreams.

I. Priority areas for support

1. Learning materials and school supplies

- Textbooks: The "Connecting Knowledge with Life" series for all grade levels
- Storybooks and reading materials:
+ For children ages 0-5: picture books with age-appropriate, relatable content and vivid illustrations; hardcover preferred for durability
+ For primary and lower-secondary students: children's stories, educational comics, folktales, science and discovery books, life-skills books, history and culture books, simple bilingual/English books; content should be age-appropriate with engaging illustrations
- Developmental toys for preschoolers (balls, wooden blocks, Legos, role-play toys, etc.)
- Learning aids for preschoolers (flashcards, letter and number cards, shape cards, counting sticks, puzzles, colored pencils, drawing paper, etc.)
- School supplies (notebooks, notebook labels, pens, rulers, erasers, ink, pencil cases, backpacks, etc.)

2. Essential support to help children go back to school

- School uniforms for all grade levels
- Transportation – bicycles/e-bikes (for high school students)
- Scholarships – 3,600,000 VND/child/school year (for students in Hanoi, Hai Phong, and Ho Chi Minh City)
- Health and accident insurance – 783,100 VND/child/school year (for students in Hanoi, Hai Phong, and Ho Chi Minh City)

3. Support for schools to build a nurturing learning environment

- Personal item sets for boarding students (blankets, pillows, cups, spoons, bowls)
- Learning equipment (projectors, screens, TVs, computers)
- Facilities for community and play activities (camping tables, folding chairs, standing fans, outdoor playground shade)

Breaking the Cycle is an initiative launched and implemented by SCDI in 2021 to build a comprehensive support ecosystem that enables children and adolescents facing adverse circumstances to remain in school, strengthen their independence, and gradually break free from the cycle of poverty.
