On March 12, in Hanoi, SCDI held a meeting with a group of dengue experts. The discussion provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on strategic directions for dengue prevention and control, while also sharing community-based intervention models currently being implemented in Dak Lak province.
During the meeting, SCDI introduced an overview of the DENGAGE project, a serological survey and assessment of knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to dengue that is being conducted in Dak Lak province. SCDI also emphasized the important role of community networks throughout the implementation of interventions, from malaria and tuberculosis to dengue. Community members not only directly support activities at the local level but also share observations and experiences from daily life in their communities, helping ensure that interventions are better aligned with local contexts and people’s needs.
Experts and SCDI representatives also discussed evidence-based, long-term strategies aimed at maximizing the strengths of community engagement in dengue prevention and control.

An important topic raised during the meeting was the development of a community-based One Health intervention framework for dengue prevention and control. This approach encourages multi-sectoral collaboration and seeks to balance and improve the health of people, the environment, and animals, with the goal of developing solutions that are sustainable and grounded in local realities.
In addition, discussions during the meeting also suggested directions for promoting community-participatory research in the field of dengue prevention and control. By connecting researchers, organizations, and local communities, practical experiences and observations from community members can become an important foundation for designing and implementing effective public health solutions.
SCDI expressed its sincere appreciation to the experts for taking the time to visit and share their valuable insights. The discussions once again highlighted the importance of collaboration and of community-centered approaches in advancing public health.
