Inspiring stories of women who devote themselves to supporting communities

SCDI is always proud to be accompanied by passionate, dedicated individuals on our journey of community support. These people, united by the same ideals, are a great source of motivation, providing strength and inspiration for SCDI in our mission of "Leaving no one behind."

On International Women's Day, March 8th, SCDI had the opportunity to listen to the stories of some of our dedicated community members. They are women who are committed to the mission of community support and give their hearts to their work while also being loving grandmothers and mothers.

Mrs. Nguyen Phuong Hoa, Collaborator of the "Breaking the Cycle" Project

"Working with SCDI, I have had the opportunity to work with many people facing difficulties in society, such as those with tuberculosis and young people who use drugs. I have especially participated in many activities to support children from disadvantaged families to attend school and continue their education.

I am motivated to stay committed to this work because of my love for children and my deep empathy for those in difficult circumstances. Many children are disadvantaged from birth, and without support, their future will be even more difficult.

Challenges are inevitable. The children in the 'Breaking the Cycle' project have very special circumstances. Despite SCDI and my best efforts to support them, there are times when we are unable to help them overcome all their difficulties, and some still have to drop out of school. This really weighs on my heart.

However, the greatest motivation that drives me to overcome these challenges is my love for them and my belief in the power of change. Seeing the joy on their faces during group activities, extracurricular events, or when they achieve good grades really encourages me more to do something that can help them create a better future.

On International Women's Day, I wish all women happiness, beauty, and joy, and encourage everyone to come together, share love, and support those facing challenges in life. I believe that even the smallest of our actions can bring about significant changes in someone else's life."

Mrs. Pham Thi Minh – Team leader of “HOPE”

"I am fortunate to have been working with SCDI since the early days. Together with SCDI, I have participated in activities to support people who use drugs and conduct HIV prevention interventions in Hanoi.

Supporting my community has changed my life. Every time I help someone, my heart overflows with joy and pride. I am also happy to be loved by others and seen as a role model and an inspiration for them to believe that substance abuse can be overcome. I want to spread that belief to everyone, especially those who are still dependent on substances.

My journey has not always been smooth. As a woman working in this field, I am acutely aware of the challenges and difficulties because of the social stigma against people, especially women, who use drugs. But community work has made me stronger, helped me believe in change, and taught me to love myself and strive for a better future. I do not claim to have done everything perfectly, but I am confident that I always work with all my heart.

As International Women's Day approaches, I want to send a message to all women: work with all your heart and passion. And most importantly, always love yourself, believe in yourself, and live fully with your passion."

Ms. Duong Thuy Thuy Vy – Member of the Community System for Ending TB (CSET), Volunteer at the SCDI’s Ho Chi Minh Office

"There are many memorable moments during my time at SCDI, but perhaps the happiest part for me is being able to interact, talk, and support the community directly. I can feel their trust and affection when they share their personal stories with me.

I am also proud to conduct knowledge-sharing sessions on tuberculosis prevention with the community. These sessions provide useful information and bring the community closer together. By sharing and listening with empathy, I believe we can create meaningful connections, allowing people to grow closer and offer each other more support.

My guiding principle in my work is 'Putting the community at the center.' However, I also remind myself that, alongside dedicating myself fully to my work, I need to take time to care for my physical and mental well-being. Only when I am healthy and strong can I truly provide the best support to others.

I hope we can all stay healthy and confident to continue on this journey of supporting the community together."

SCDI would like to extend our deep gratitude to the women who have been and continue to accompany us on our journey of community support. We wish everyone good health, happiness, and endless love. We hope that from small actions, we can create great changes, spread warmth, and bring hope to our community.
