As the world faces increasingly complex challenges, from emerging infectious diseases and climate change to biodiversity loss, the connection between human, animal, and environmental health has become more critical than ever.
The One Health approach, which views health as an integrated whole that links people, animals, and ecosystems, is a direction that we at SCDI actively prioritize and promote across our work.
The GREASE network (Management of Emerging Epidemic Risks in Southeast Asia) was launched by CIRAD, the French Agricultural Research Center for International Development, in 2009, following outbreaks of zoonotic diseases such as SARS and avian influenza (H5N1).
What began as a research initiative has since evolved into a regional collaboration platform connecting research institutes, universities, government agencies, and civil society organizations across Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and the Philippines.
Operating under the One Health framework, GREASE emphasizes the importance of cross-sector collaboration between public health, veterinary, agricultural, and environmental systems to effectively prevent and control emerging infectious diseases.
As a partner of CIRAD, we are proud to join the GREASE network, sharing our experiences, contributing community perspectives, and co-developing initiatives that connect research with policy action. From October 27 to 29, our representatives participated in GREASE’s 13th Annual Meeting, engaging with regional partners to discuss future collaboration and share best practices.
The One Health approach not only strengthens our collective ability to prevent and respond to emerging diseases but also broadens the vision for public health, integrating it with environmental protection and sustainable development.
We will continue to work alongside CIRAD and regional partners to promote community-based interventions and move together toward a safer, healthier, and more harmonious future with nature.
