Strengthening community leadership in tuberculosis prevention and care

On March 3, SCDI met with members of community groups in Hanoi to exchange perspectives, experiences, and practical lessons from their work supporting people affected by tuberculosis.

During the discussion, community members actively shared both the opportunities and challenges they encounter while reaching out to, counseling, referring, and supporting people at risk of or affected by tuberculosis. Some of the practical barriers commonly faced by patients include difficulties accessing services, concerns about treatment side effects, and issues related to health insurance coverage.

Participants also reviewed updated information on the epidemiological situation and the tuberculosis prevention and control system. The discussion covered diagnostic methods, new treatment regimens for latent tuberculosis and drug-resistant tuberculosis, as well as available support policies through health insurance and the Vietnam's National Tuberculosis Control Program.

Building on their close connections and practical understanding of local contexts, SCDI works alongside community groups to translate these insights into support activities that better respond to local needs. Through these efforts, community engagement continues to play an important role in strengthening prevention and treatment while advancing the goal of ending tuberculosis in Vietnam.
